
Refreshed with excellent Calabrian salad
Sooner or later, summer has arrived, and with it the fateful question: what do we eat?
Sure, we're thinking of something fresh, simple, and quick to prepare!
At Latteria del Sole, we offer you an excellent Calabrian salad, whose ingredients come directly from our Mediterranean diet, envied throughout the world.
Preparing this salad is really simple. All you need are tomatoes, preferably locally sourced or from your local greengrocer. We'll ship the other ingredients directly to your home.
The undisputed star of the salad is the red queen, the Tropea PGI onion, rich in vitamins C and E, sodium and magnesium, whose bulb has antisclerotic properties that benefit the heart and arteries.
We season everything with our excellent Ottobratico organic extra virgin olive oil from Masserie Caporelli. It's called Ottobratico because it comes from the cultivar typical of the Vibo Valentia province of the Costa degli Dei (Coast of the Gods). It's a fruity oil, rich in tocopherols, vitamin E, a natural antioxidant containing oleuropein, a beneficial substance that gives the classic tingling sensation in the throat.
Other essential ingredients include diced local Spilinga Provola or Silano Caciocavallo, and our artisanal Pizzo Calabro tuna in brine from Sardanelli or Callipo, which, when mixed with organic olive oil, will give this salad an excellent flavor.
To finish, we could add some olives and oregano from Caria (a small village overlooking Tropea, whose wild oregano has an intense aroma).
We recommend serving the salad on toasted bread, on our wheat or corn-based Frese or Crostini.
